ESPN Names Eagles 'Best Fit' for Future Hall of Fame Defender
By Cem Yolbulan
The free agency craze is over, the NFL Draft is behind us, the rookie minicamp is on the books and now teams have turned their attention to the training camp. They are trying to fill out the rest of their rosters and evaluating players who they want to give a shot to before finalizing their 53-man roster for the 2024 campaign.
The Philadelphia Eagles are no exception. As the team is trying to have a bounceback season next year, they are still looking for ways to improve the roster. One of those ways is free agency.
There are surprisingly a ton of veterans who are still on the market who could help a contending team. ESPN's Matt Bowen took a look at the list of remaining free agents and found the best fit for them. The Philadelphia Eagles emerged as the best fit for a highly accomplished defender.
Calais Campbell, who spent last season with the Atlanta Falcons, could be an intriguing addition for the Eagles, according to Bowen.
"Campbell would fit in Vic Fangio's 30 front as a rotational end, building more depth. At 6-foot-8 and 282 pounds, he can hold the point against the run game when matched up with offensive tackles, and he was a productive player last season for the Falcons, registering 28 pressures. I see Campbell as a total pro who could help multiple NFL squads."

Despite being 37 years old, Campbell is still playing at a high level. He is not the dominant wrecking ball he was earlier in his career, but he still played every game and over 700 snaps last year in Atlanta, posting 6.5 sacks and 10 tackles for loss.
The biggest impact the six-time Pro Bowler will have in Philadelphia is in the locker room. Widely considered to be an excellent leader and a mentor around the league, Campbell would be the perfect veteran for young defenders in Philadelphia like Jordan Davis, Milton Williams, and Nolan Smith.
The Eagles have solid depth at EDGE with Brandon Graham staying for another year and the addition of Bryce Huff. But you can never have too many high-level pass rushers on your team and no team should turn their nose at a consummate professional like Calais Campbell.
