Eagles Veteran Seemingly Confirms He'll Be Traded
By Jovan Alford
The Philadelphia Eagles made a major addition to their defensive line to kick off free agency by signing Bryce Huff to a blockbuster three-year, $51.1 million contract. With the Eagles signing Huff, it likely means that the team will trade either Haason Reddick or Josh Sweat.
Last weekend, it was reported by multiple outlets that the Eagles were having trade calls on Sweat, who is in the final year of his deal. Philadelphia cannot afford to trade both defensive linemen. But one of them will be gone before the start of the regular season.
Sweat took to social media and posted a comment on Instagram that read, “I will miss you all.” The 26-year-old defensive end is coming off a somewhat down 2023 season, where he posted 43 combined tackles, 23 quarterback hits, seven tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles.
The former fourth-round pick couldn’t duplicate what he did on the field in 2022, producing a career-high 11 sacks and 15 tackles for loss.
Sweat has a $9 million cap hit for 2024, which might be too expensive for the Eagles’ wallet, as we saw the team move on from Avonte Maddox last week, who had a similar salary cap hit.
If the Eagles do move on from Sweat, they’ll likely target a couple of draft picks as they have other holes that must filled on the defensive side of the ball. With the new league year set to begin on Wednesday, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the trade chatter pick up around Sweat.
