The Philadelphia Eagles have been thrown into the middle of another controversy thanks to a cryptic social media post from A.J. Brown.
It appeared the receiver was quoting a Bible passage from Mark 6:11, "If you're not welcomed, not listened to, quietly withdraw. Don't make a scene. Shrug your shoulders and be on your way." This has led to understandable speculation that Brown isn't happy with his role in Philly's offense, even though the Eagles are undefeated and have had no issues scoring when needed.
Predictably, this led to questions for Philadelphia's coaching staff, including offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo. The coach took the right approach, being extremely defensive of the star player and leaving zero question that his comments were completely in defense of his player and focused on putting the questionable media post behind the receiver.
""AJ and I have a great relationship throughout the years. We spend a lot of time together. Great communication. We've had no problems. I know where his heart is, he wants to do anything to help us. As far as I'm concerned, we're in a good spot""Kevin Patullo
Everything about the coordinator's comments builds up Brown and downgrades the potential problem. However, there is no denying that there is still a reason for a level of anxiety when it comes to the pass catcher's outlook. Posting about not making a scene is far from ideal after a key win over the previously undefeated Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Eagles Offensive Coordinator Pours Cold Water on AJ Brown Concerns
Patullo has faced consistent questions, both in and out of the building, concerning the Eagles' struggles consistently passing the football. This led to Brown's post and has left serious questions about where the receiver's mind is as the coaching staff continues to focus on damage control. It is impossible to believe an undefeated team that is the defending Super Bowl champ could even consider parting ways with its most talented pass catcher.
However, when you post this type of message after a win, without personal accomplishments, a series of questions will follow. Still, Patullo is doing the right thing, defending his guy and speaking about the intent.
This, along with Sirianni's comments, should have Eagles fans feeling better about the situation heading into Week 5. Philly doesn't have an easy road ahead, facing the Denver Broncos this week, a team coming off a dominating win over the Bengals. With that difficult road to navigate comes the hope that a breakout performance is on the way for Brown, ending the frustrating speculation and questions regarding the social media post.
