The Philadelphia Eagles moved to 4-0 on the season following their 31-25 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. Philadelphia has not lost since Week 16 of the 2024 regular season, fueling hopes that the Eagles have what it takes to win the second of back-to-back Super Bowls.
While this should all be reason to celebrate in the City of Brotherly Love, fans were instead left trying to decipher the meaning behind a pair of social media posts from wideout A.J. Brown after the wideout had another subpar performance. Just one week after enjoying his first breakout outing of the season with six receptions for 109 yards and a touchdown against the Los Angeles Rams, Brown was a non-factor against Tampa Bay, reeling in just two catches on nine targets for seven yards receiving.
AJ Brown Appears to Send Message to Eagles Fans After Quiet Week 4
Shortly after the final whistle sounded, Brown took to X and shared a pair of thoughts that are raising eyebrows throughout the NFL. First, Brown posted "I love y'all with all my heart" along with an emoji of a mending heart. Eagles fans then flooded the replies, sharing their appreciation for Brown and reassuring him that things will turn around.
An hour later, Brown took to X again and shared another post. This time, he shared a graphic featuring a verse from the Bible, with the passage being Mark 6:11.
"If you're not welcomed, not listened to, quietly withdraw. Don't make a scene. Shrug your shoulders and be on your way," the quote read.
After crossing the 1,000-yard receiving plateau in each of his first two seasons with the Eagles, Brown has 151 yards through four games. At this pace, he would come far short of that number this season. This has to be a frustrating thing for Brown to deal with from week to week after racking up over 7,000 yards receiving and 49 receiving touchdowns since entering the league in 2019.
Brown has been targeted 28 times through four games with only 14 receptions. Considering he has yet to drop a pass this season, his early lack of production is a cause for concern. The lack of explosive plays in the passing game has already been discussed by Nick Sirianni this season, and that is an area where Brown typically thrives.
Nothing the former first-round pick has done this season has made him seem to be discontent with the situation in Philadelphia or a problem in the locker room. Winning, obviously, helps keep that the case. As long as Brown continues to focus on what he can control and brings the right attitude to the "office" each week, there shouldn't be any internal issues that come from the Eagles' inability to get him the ball.
Brown's slow start falls on the shoulders of offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo and his fellow staff members. Not finding a way to get a player as talented as Brown the ball in positions where he can be successful cannot be disregarded, even if the team is winning. Hopefully, that changes soon.
