Former Eagles RB's Career is Over if He Doesn't Find a New Team Before OTAs

There's a good chance that this ex-Philadelphia Eagles running back could hang up his cleats if he doesn't join a new team before OTAs begin this month.

Blink and you'll miss it, the NFL offseason is racing by at warp speed.

Even though it feels like the Philadelphia Eagles won Super Bowl 59 just yesterday, the league is already deep into the offseason as free agency, the 2025 NFL draft, and rookie minicamp are already in the rearview mirror. It won't be much longer before the Eagles' organized team activities (OTAs) will be underway, marking another milestone on their offseason journey.

The arrival of OTAs is an exciting time for fans because it means the regular-season action is that much closer. At the same time, the upcoming practice sessions mean free-agent veterans only have a limited time to find their next playing opportunities. Once training camp begins, it'll be even tougher to find a job.

Former Eagles RB Boston Scott Could Retire After OTAs

Several former Eagles players are looking for a job before OTAs open, including running back Boston Scott. Despite the number of league-wide RB openings there were at the start of the offseason, the ex-2018 sixth-round pick still hasn't landed his next NFL opportunity.

After beginning his career on the New Orleans Saints' practice squad, Scott made his way to the City of Brotherly Love when the Eagles claimed him off waivers in December 2018, and it wasn't long after that when he became a fan favorite.

The former Louisiana Tech product ended up playing 75 games (12 starts) during his six-year Eagles run, leading to his recording 302 carries for 1,295 rushing yards, 71 catches for 566 receiving yards, and a total of 17 touchdowns. He also tallied 153 scrimmage yards and three TDs on 27 touches in eight postseason outings.

Unfortunately, Scott has experienced nothing but bad luck since leaving the Eagles last offseason. He joined the Los Angeles Rams last May only to be released in August once roster cuts began. The Pittsburgh Steelers signed him to their practice squad less than a week after that, however, he was booted from the Steel City in mid-September and hasn't been on a team since then.

After sitting on the sidelines for a whole season, it's safe to say Scott's outlook isn't great. It doesn't help that he just turned 30 years old last month, which is the age when RBs truly begin to regress, nor does the lack of rumors surrounding any potential interest from teams.

The NFL is a cutthroat business, and that's especially true as far as aging running backs are concerned. As beloved as Scott once was in Philadelphia, the former Eagles RB's best days are behind him, and it wouldn't be shocking if he's already played his final professional snap.
