Searching for any weakness on the Philadelphia Eagles roster is difficult. This is to be expected for the defending champs, who appear poised to defend their title. As the city pivots its attention to the Phillies, the Eagles cannot be content to remain quiet. Looking at potential roster upgrades, one jumps off the page for the Philly offense. The team needs to add a true third receiver capable of stepping up if A.J. Brown deals with injuries again in the 2025 season.
The cheapest option that has an incredibly high ceiling is former division rival Amari Cooper. Philly fans will remember the veteran from his time in Dallas. Since leaving the Cowboys, the veteran receiver has spent time in Cleveland and Buffalo. The last stop, Cooper put up the worst numbers of his career and became an offensive afterthought. Still, there is reason to believe Cooper would rebound in the Philly offense.
Amari Cooper Would be the Perfect Final Piece for a Loaded Philadelphia Eagles Offense
The Eagles have already been pointed to as a potential landing spot for Cooper. It is with the understanding that the veteran appears ready to take a lesser role. This is due to struggles in the 2024 season that led to an incredibly poor season of production. By Cooper's standard, the season was a failure.
Still, with Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, and Brown surrounding the veteran, there is plenty of reason to believe the numbers would rebound. What Philly needs from Cooper is simply to be a reliable third option. Cooper simply needs to be consistently capable of playing key downs and beating a team's third cover option. It is hard to believe there is a better scenario out there for the veteran receiver.
Hurts would benefit from working with Cooper as well, considering the veteran's experience. Having the option changes the look of the Philly offense and takes pressure off Dotson to be a player he hasn't been during his Philly tenure. The deal makes sense for both sides and should at least be explored as the Eagles continue to prepare to defend their title in the 2025 season.
