Eagles Receive Super Bowl Support From Chiefs Rival
The Philadelphia Eagles are just over a week away from facing off against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 59.
As with any Super Bowl matchups, fans across the country have been weighing in on whether they think the Eagles or Chiefs will hoist the Lombardi Trophy. Current and former NFL players have been making their championship predictions, too, including one of Kansas City's biggest rival players.
Ja'Marr Chase Cheering for Eagles Over Chiefs
On Friday, Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase joined NFL Live's Laura Rutledge to discuss multiple offseason topics, including his Super Bow 59 predictions. The superstar playmaker didn't take long to make it clear which team will have his support in New Orleans next weekend.
"Everyone knows I'm not a KC fan so I'm hoping Saquon (Barkley) rushes for like 200 (yards) this game," Chase admitted. "Overall, it'll be a great game just because both sides have great players."
It's far from surprising to see Chase giving the Eagles his total Super Bowl support. The four-time Pro Bowl WR's Bengals have had quite the rivalry with the Chiefs since he joined the league in 2021, which includes two AFC Championship Game matchups.
Chase first met the Chiefs in the playoffs during his rookie campaign, ending in a 27-24 victory for the Bengals before they went on to lose to the L.A. Rams in Super Bowl LVI. Interestingly enough, it was also the last time that Kansas City lost in the postseason.
The AFC powerhouses then collided on the same stage one year later, this time ending with the Chiefs winning 23-20 at Arrowhead Stadium. The Bengals haven't made the playoffs since then whereas the Chiefs won back-to-back Super Bowls and will challenge for a third in a row on Feb. 9.
Like Chase, the Eagles aren't exactly fans of the Chiefs after falling 38-35 to the latter in Super Bowl LVII two years ago. Philadelphia has since got a bit of revenge, having earned a 21-17 win over Kansas City in Week 11 of the 2023 campaign.
Eagles fans would love nothing more than for Chase's production to come true and to see a 200-yard performance from Barkley. The NFL's 2024 leading rusher already achieved the feat twice between the regular season and playoffs, having amassed a franchise-best 255 rushing yards vs. the Rams in Week 12 before having a 205-yard performance against them again in the Division Round.
Oddsmakers are expecting another big performance this weekend. Not only is Barkley currently favored to record 115-plus yards (-135), he also holds the shortest odds (-185) among Super Bowl 59 anytime touchdown scorers on FanDuel Sportsbook.
