Saquon Barkley Reveals Big Surprise After Monstrous Eagles Performance
By Jovan Alford
The Philadelphia Eagles completed the first half of their two-game road trip, taking down the Los Angeles Rams, 37-20, on Sunday Night Football.
The Eagles received fantastic performances from the defense and star running back Saquon Barkley. The 27-year-old running back singlehandedly dismantled the Rams’ defense by himself as he went off for a career-high 255 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries.
Barkley also impacted the Eagles’ passing game with four receptions (four targets) for 47 yards. It was a historic performance from Barkley, who is firmly in discussion for league MVP.
After Sunday night’s win over the Rams, the star running back was asked if this was better than expected. Barkley didn’t know he would have this type of success with the Eagles but is thankful for the opportunity.
“Yeah, to be honest, I’m not surprised. I didn’t know I would have this type of success… but I’m thankful to be here, I’m thankful for the fresh start,” he said (h/t Zach Berman of PHLY). “(My family and I thought) this was a place I could rewrite my story and show everyone the type of player I think I can be and I was meant to be, and it’s working out right now.”
The former Penn State star has done a great job thus far of rewriting his story after spending the last six years with the New York Giants. Many NFL fans wondered for years what Barkley would look like with a different team and through 11 games we have our answer.
Behind one of the better offensive lines in the league, Barkley is showing everyone why he was drafted second overall in 2018 and that RB position isn’t dead.
Barkley, Josh Jacobs, and Derrick Henry have all done a tremendous job this season, bucking the trend about paying free-agent running backs. The Eagles hope Barkley can continue to have more monstrous performances for the rest of the regular season.
