The Philadelphia Eagles are still searching for a new offensive coordinator after turning the page on Kevin Patullo. On Tuesday night, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel will be joining the Los Angeles Chargers to become their OC.

And the news around offensive coordinators continued, as it appears the Eagles will be turned away by ex-New York Giants HC Brian Daboll. The Athletic's Dianna Russini revealed that Philadelphia is now going through its coordinator search with the assumption that Daboll wants the Buffalo Bills head coaching opening. If he doesn't get that role, he's expected to join the Tennessee Titans as new HC Robert Saleh's offensive coordinator.

This is a gut punch to an Eagles team expected to miss out on two top coordinators in this cycle. Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Daboll was the top target for Philadelphia after his interview on Tuesday.

Yet it looks like the dream of getting him are over as well, making the other options bleak.

Eagles OC Targets Looks Bleak After Daboll, McDaniel Reports

The Eagles have conducted interviews with Zac Robinson, Mike Kafka, Jim Bob Cooter, and Josh Grizzard for their opening. These names aren't as inspiring as the likes of Daboll or McDaniel.

What McDaniel did with the Dolphins was impressive even though numbers took a dip in 2024 and 2025. During the 2022 season, Miami was sixth in total offense before jumping up to No. 1 in 2023.

As for Daboll, he played a key role in quarterback Josh Allen's development when he was the Bills' offensive coordinator from 2018 to 2021. That's why the Titans are pushing for him to join them in Tennessee to help develop 2025 first-overall pick Cam Ward.

The Eagles have their work cut out for them to find an impressive candidate. Russini also expressed that she doesn't think Philadelphia is an attractive opening. "I think coordinators on this list are aware that navigating Philly is difficult, and it’s not the easiest place to step into—especially if you’re looking for a successful few years,” Russini said on an interview with Sports Radio 94.1 WIP.

And that's not the kind of reporting you want to hear around the team. But when you take a step back, the Eagles are changing their offensive coordinator for the fifth straight season. Between 2022 and 2025, Shane Steichen, Brian Johnson, Kellen Moore, and Patullo have called the plays for this team.

While Steichen and Moore have moved on to get HC jobs, Johnson and Patullo were canned after one season. Candidates don't feel that level of security with this team, and that could force the Eagles into the second and third tiers of options.

The Eagles were looking for the big fish in McDaniel and Daboll, but they aren't going to land either. And that's a tough pill to swallow.
