The Philadelphia Eagles need the right guy to fix their offense. According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Eagles will interview former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll to be their next offensive coordinator, in hopes that he is the answer to their issues.
Daboll had two top-five offenses in his days with the Buffalo Bills. And while his days with the New York Giants didn't end on a high note, luring him to Philadelphia could lead to other moves. For starters, he could help them acquire a solid backup tight end like Daniel Bellinger.
The Eagles Could Package Brian Daboll with Daniel Bellinger
While not the most prominent name out there, Bellinger is an intriguing pickup for this team. He always had some type of role under Daboll, usually a legitimate one at that, and he was a part of his first draft class in the Big Apple.
Bellinger has shown glimpses of playmaking ability, and with the Eagles potentially losing Dallas Goedert and having little behind him in terms of a TE2 option in-house, he's a low-risk/high-reward type of addition. More importantly, given his low profile, he shouldn't be expensive to acquire.
During his four years in the league, Bellinger has hauled in 88 receptions on 106 targets for a 60.4 percent successful catch rate. He has 934 receiving yards and four touchdowns, two of which came in the previous campaign. While those numbers don't necessarily scream superstar, he's been a consistent contributor on the field for Daboll, both as a blocker and as a pass catcher.
Hiring Daboll would make perfect sense for this team. He's more than familiar with the NFC East after four years in New York. In addition to his knowledge of one of Philadelphia's primary division rivals, Daboll has plenty of connections to the Eagles' coaching staff and roster. Daboll is more than familiar with Jalen Hurts, as he coached the QB at Alabama. The same could be said about Nick Sirianni, who was also a part of the Kansas City Chiefs' coaching staff under Romeo Crennel back in 2022.
His head coaching tenure wasn't that successful, but we've seen guys like Josh McDaniels or Steve Spagnuolo thrive as assistants and struggle as the main guy. Daboll has plenty of experience, and that won't be lost on Sirianni during this process, as the Eagles' head coach admitted that he was a major influence in his coaching success.
Beyond that, having Daboll around could help lure some players like Bellinger to the City of Brotherly Love. GM Howie Roseman needs to find reinforcements at a discount, and the four-year pro checks those boxes.
As things stand now, the Eagles have also shown an interest in Indianapolis Colts OC Jim Bob Cooter, Atlanta Falcons OC Zac Robinson, and Giants interim head coach -- and former Eagles draft pick-- Mike Kafka for the position.
