The NFL coaching landscape continues to change, as ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Buffalo Bills fired head coach Sean McDermott. The move comes after nine years in Buffalo, as the Bills seek to find another voice at the helm.
That move will have ripple effects around the league, and one of them could be positive for the Philadelphia Eagles. They are searching for their new offensive coordinator after turning the page on Kevin Patullo, and Bills OC Joe Brady may now be one of the best options on the market.
Joe Brady Would Be a Perfect Choice for Eagles OC Job
Former New York Giants bench boss Brian Daboll is set to interview for the Eagles OC job, and it wouldn't be surprising if the Bills had interest, too. They haven't revealed who they plan on targeting yet, but the early rumblings have been around Daboll, who was their OC from 2018 to 2021, and played a big role in Josh Allen's rise to stardom.
Daboll joining the Bills wouldn't be the worst news for Philadelphia now that Brady is available and might even be the better hiring option.
Brady has called plays over the last two and a half seasons for the Bills, making them one of the best offensive units. In his first full season coaching Buffalo's offense in 2024, they became the first team in NFL history to score 30-plus rushing and 30-plus receiving touchdowns. They also ranked 10th in total offense (359.1) while being ninth in passing offense (227.9) and rushing offense (131.2). Meanwhile, they were second in scoring offense (30.9).
The positive momentum continued into 2025. Buffalo finished the regular season fourth in total offense (376.3), 15th in pass offense (216.6), but first in rushing offense (159.6). They also ranked fourth in scoring offense (28.3). All of this without mentioning that Allen won an NFL MVP award under his guidance.
Brady has a proven track record of running an elite offense, finding success both in the air and on the ground. If the Bills decide to pass on him as their next HC, there's a great chance he leaves to become a play caller, and Philadelphia would be wise to make him their top target.
Not only does Brady have a nice feel for the game, but he's creative. In the loss to the Broncos in the divisional round, he called a hook and ladder play with 32 seconds left in the game to help get the Bills in field goal range. Allen threw a pass to Khalil Shakir, who then flipped it to running back Ray Davis, picking up 26 yards.
That play call illustrates his crafty play calling, but also shows the guts he has. With the season on the line, he made a gusty call that ended up getting Buffalo in field goal range. The Eagles' offense is loaded, but they need a play caller who knows what he's doing.
Brady is that guy, and with a shakeup happening in Buffalo, the Eagles would be wise to see if they can get him to come over. They've expressed interest in Brady, as Zach Berman of The Athletic pointed out. Philadelphia interviewed Brady back in 2021 before giving the job to Nick Sirianni.
The Eagles had interest in him before he went to Buffalo, and after what he did there, they likely will have interest in him once again.
