For the second time in three seasons, the Philadelphia Eagles will meet the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. Head coach Nick Sirianni & Co. will do their best to ensure that Sunday's appearance ends differently compared to the last time they faced the Chiefs, meaning every player must do their part to ensure history doesn't repeat itself.
While Eagles fans will look to the likes of Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts to deliver the Lombardi Trophy to Philadelphia, it isn't always the best players who decide championship games. The Super Bowl has seen its fair share of unlikely heroes throughout history, so perhaps it'll be an unexpected Eagle who saves the day this weekend.
The Eagles' practice squad is ripe with players who could step up at a moment's notice, including one defender who should be active in New Orleans on Sunday.
Eagles Must Promote Nicholas Morrow for Super Bow 59
When it comes to potential practice squad promotions, Sirianni must consider activating veteran linebacker Nicholas Morrow one more time.
After beginning his NFL career with the Las Vegas Raiders and Chicago Bears, Morrow spent the 2023 campaign in Philadelphia on a one-year contract. He joined the Buffalo Bills on another year-long contract the following offseason only to be waived in January before joining the Eagles' practice squad less than two weeks later.
It didn't take long for Morrow to make an impact after returning to Philadelphia.
The Eagles deployed the former Greenville Panther for their Division Round and NFC Championship matchups, resulting in his recording three combined tackles while playing 37 special teams snaps. He currently holds a 72.0 special teams grade on Pro Football Focus this postseason, which is better than his performance with the Bills (64.1).
Special teams plays can affect a Super Bowl's outcome, which is why the Eagles must elevate Morrow to the active roster one final time. He's shown that he can still contribute to Sirianni's lineup despite spending the majority of the campaign in Buffalo. Now that he's had a few more weeks to practice with his teammates, the 29-year-old veteran is primed to continue making an impact.
Philadelphia will need Morrow — and the rest of the defense — to play above and beyond expectations this weekend. After all, the Eagles are still 1.5-point underdogs to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
