3 New Eagles Since Super Bowl 57 That Will Make This One Different
The Philadelphia Eagles face the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 59 on Sunday. This marks the second time in three seasons these two teams have met in the big game. In 2022, the Chiefs defeated the Eagles 38-35 in a highly contested game.
Sunday's encounter is expected to be another close matchup. That said, both teams have made changes to their rosters since the last Super Bowl clash. Kansas City has a whole new cast of wide receivers, while Philadelphia has revamped its defense and added a dynamic weapon on offense.
With that in mind, lets take a look at three new Eagles who will impact the outcome of Super Bowl 59.
1. Saquon Barkley, RB
Ask anyone who has watched football in 2024 what the biggest difference is between the 2022 Eagles and the 2024 Eagles, and they'll likely point to Saquon Barkley.
Barkley is coming off one of the best seasons In NFL history, rushing for 2,005 yards. Unfortunately, he fell 101 yards short of breaking Eric Dickerson's single-season rushing record of 2,105 yards.
Nonetheless, Barkley's season was something football fans haven't seen from the running back position in a while. His season was highlighted by seven touchdown runs of 50+ yards. Barkley's ability to create explosive runs is not something the Eagles had the last time these two teams played in the Super Bowl.
Sure, Philadelphia had a solid run game with Miles Sanders in 2022, but nothing like what they have this season. In 2022, Sanders rushed for 1,269 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also averaged 4.8 yards per carry.
For most running backs, only having a few big rushes a season is normal; that's why Barkley is such a difference-maker. Although Kansas City will be looking to keep Barkley in check, if he can break off a 50+ yards rush it can change the whole complexion of the game.
