Eagles Reuniting With Defender in Surprise Move Before Divisional Game
The Philadelphia Eagles' 22-10 win over the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card Round didn't come without a loss. Veteran linebacker Nakobe Dean tore his patellar tendon in the loss, ruling him out of Sunday's Division Round showdown with the LA Rams as well as the remainder of the NFL postseason.
The Rams have been one of the league's hottest teams in recent months, meaning the Eagles need all hands on deck if they want to advance to the NFC Championship Game — especially after Matthew Stafford & Co. dropped 27 points on the Minnesota Vikings, who entered the playoffs with a top-five defense.
Needing warm bodies to survive another grueling playoff run, the Eagles reunited with one of their former defenders on Tuesday.
Eagles Sign LB Nicholas Morrow to Practice Squad
NFL insider Mike Garafolo is reporting that the Eagles have signed LB Nicholas Morrow to their practice squad. The former Greenville defender previously made 15 appearances (12 starts) for Philadelphia in 2023 before joining the Buffalo Bills last offseason.
Morrow's time with the Bills ended when he was released in favor of quarterback Mike White on Jan .3, opening the door for his return to the City of Brotherly Love.
Despite having over 100 games of experience under his belt, the Bills never saw Morrow as more than a backup option. The 29-year-old LB only played 6% of defensive snaps while recording three combined tackles across 11 relief appearances. His 47.9 grade for overall defense on Pro Football Focus was among the worst marks of his career.
Having said that, a return to Philadelphia could be exactly what the Huntsville, AL native needs to get back on track.
After all, Morrow's lone season with the Eagles was among his best. He racked up 66 solo tackles, five defended passes, three sacks, and two fumbles recoveries while playing to 77.0 run defense and 79.9 pass rush grades, respectively. Considering how his 30th birthday isn't even until July, it isn't unfathomable that he can return to that level.
For now, it remains to be seen if Morrow will be given the green light to face the Rams this weekend. The former undrafted linebacker hasn't suited up since Week 13, meaning he might need to prove himself before head coach Nick Sirianni throws him into a playoff situation.
With or without Morrow, the good news is that Philadelphia's outlook is promising. The Eagles are currently 6-point favorites to beat the Rams and advance to the NFC Championship Game, according to DraftKings Sportsbook.
