The Philadelphia Eagles have wrapped up their preseason schedule and have turned their attention to cut day. Things started off with three trades getting made on Sunday including a deal that acquired quarterback Sam Howell from the Minnesota Vikings. The Eagles continued by releasing Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Kyle McCord in recent days as they slash their 90-man roster down to 53 players by Tuesday’s deadline.

While the Eagles have made strides in that process, there’s still a lot of work to be done. That includes a pair of ruthless cuts that put an end to a training camp battle and leaves both challengers looking for new jobs as Philadelphia continues to cut down its roster.

Eagles Cut TE Nick Muse, E.J. Jenkins Ahead of Roster Cutdown Day

Eagles tight ends E.J. Jenkins and Nick Muse were battling for a spot on the back end of the roster. But as it turned out both players wound up turning in their playbooks on Monday morning.

KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson reported that Jenkins had been released, which may have come as a shock to some Eagles fans. Jenkins has been on and off the team over the past several years and appeared in eight games with Philadelphia, catching a seven-yard touchdown pass during the regular season.

Muse, whose release was reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, was in Philadelphia for a shorter amount of time but was starting to make noise with an impressive performance during spring practice and the team’s mandatory minicamp. But that didn’t continue once the preseason started as he posted a 56.9 overall grade in three games according to Pro Football Focus.

The moves seem cruel but they’re not surprising considering the state of the Eagles tight end room. Dallas Goedert will return as the team’s starter after renegotiating his contract this offseason. The Eagles also returned Grant Calcaterra and added Kylen Granson in free agency, leaving Jenkins and Muse on the chopping block this preseason.

Muse and Jenkins will have to elsewhere for a job ahead of next season and the Eagles will look to move on with the trio they have entering 2025.
