Eagles' Jalen Carter Clearly Not 100% in Lead Up to Super Bowl
By Chris Schad
The Philadelphia Eagles will need all the help they can get when they battle the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX. The Eagles came up short in their effort to dethrone the Chiefs back in 2022 and after a year away, they seem to have a roster capable of bringing a second Super Bowl title back to Philadelphia.
But while the Eagles have arrived in New Orleans, it hasn’t come without concerns. Multiple starters come into Super Bowl week dealing with various injuries and one of the Eagles’ most important defenders is heading into the game at less than 100 percent.
Jalen Carter Battling Illness Ahead of Super Bowl LIX
Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter missed his media availability at the Super Bowl for the second straight day on Thursday. Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that an illness is the reason for Carter’s absence and the stud defender was listed as a limited participant at Wednesday’s practice.
This is bad news for obvious reasons. Carter has been a key cog in the Eagles defensive line, logging 42 total tackles including 12 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks to earn his first Pro Bowl bid this season. The Eagles are also nervous about edge rusher Brandon Graham’s availability as he deals with an elbow injury and linebacker Zack Baun who practiced in full with a groin injury on Wednesday.
There are several other key Eagles dealing with ailments in the run up to Sunday’s game. DaVonta Smith was limited in Wednesday’s practice with a hamstring injury while offensive linemen Landon Dickerson (knee) and Cam Jurgens (back) practiced in full.
While each of these injuries has had an impact, none may be bigger than Carter. While Carter is still likely to play on Sunday, it will be something worth monitoring throughout the week as Philadelphia attempts to topple the Chiefs’ dynasty.
