The Philadelphia Eagles have one of the best wide receiver tandems in the NFL. A.J. Brown has become a perennial Pro Bowler while DeVonta Smith has been a deep threat to keep defenses honest in his first three seasons in the league. Together, both have helped the Eagles win the Super Bowl title in franchise history. But their depth behind them is a little sketchy.
The Eagles tried to address the problem by adding Jahan Dotson with a trade just before the season. But the former first-rounder’s production never arrived, catching 19 passes for 216 yards in 17 games with Philadelphia last season.
Philadelphia has taken another swing in free agency, however, adding a former second-round pick that will look for a chance at redemption with the Eagles.
Eagles Sign Former Second-Round Pick Terrace Marshall Jr.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Eagles have agreed to terms with former second-round pick Terrace Marshall Jr. The 24-year-old was the 59th overall pick in the 2021 draft by the Carolina Panthers, but he was never able to stick, catching 64 passes for 767 yards and one touchdowns in three seasons.

Marshall’s career has become carousel since he was waived by Carolina at the end of last year’s training camp. He signed with the San Francisco 49ers' practice squad before he was released again in October and finished the year with the Las Vegas Raiders, catching three passes for 41 yards after he was promoted to the active roster in November.
The move seems irrelevant to Eagles fans who are still celebrating their Super Bowl victory. But it could also be another redemption project for a team that has thrived off them in recent years.
The Eagles signed Mekhi Becton after he was a former first-round pick by the New York Jets last offseason. While he was a bust at tackle, the Eagles moved him to guard and watched him become one of the best in the NFL, cashing in on a free-agent deal with the Los Angeles Chargers in free agency.
Philadelphia also added Zack Baun after the former third-round pick had four years of obscurity in New Orleans. That move paid off for the Eagles as Baun became an All-Pro linebacker on Vic Fangio’s defense and signed a three-year, $51 million contract in free agency.
In all likelihood, signing Marshall may not amount to much. But stranger things have happened and if Philadelphia may be the right place if he’s looking to revive his career.
