The Philadelphia Eagles built one of the strongest roster rosters in all of the NFL entering the 2024 season. As a result, Philadelphia finds themselves back in the Super Bowl, facing a familiar opponent in the Kansas City Chiefs for the second time in three seasons. That said, the health of some Eagles players remains a question heading into Sunday.

The biggest addition to the injury report this week has been star defensive tackle Jalen Carter, who is dealing with an illness. Carter's illness has forced him to be unavailable to the media for the last two days and a limited participant in practice on Wednesday.

On Thursday, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio talked with NBC Philadelphia's John Clark and shared a worrying update about Carter. Fangio said Carter has an illness that is going around through some of the team and hopes the DT will be ready for the Super Bowl.

Fangio's comments are far from reassuring. Typically, when a coach says that he hopes a player can play in a game, it's never a good sign. At this point in the week, coaches usually have a good feel for if a player will play on Sunday or not.

However, given that Carter is dealing with an illness and not an injury, not having a complete understanding of his availability makes slight sense. Depending on what illness Carter came down with, the recovery time could be fast or slow.

There's every possibility that Carter is listed a game-time decision on Friday because he may not have recovered yet. However, it's hard to imagine that Fangio was implying Carter doesn't play at all in the Super Bowl.

Even if Carter isn't 100%, he will likely still see the field; he just may not be as effective. Hopefully, though, Carter will be as close to 100% as possible so he can make the biggest impact on the game.
