For the majority of the offseason thus far, Chicago and Indianapolis have dominated the Carson Wentz trade conversation. The Colts obviously have a unique tie to Wentz due to the connection that remains between him and head coach Frank Reich, and the Bears have been desperate for a franchise-caliber quarterback for genuinely as long as I can remember. Hoping to get the two sides to aggressively bid against each other, the Philadelphia Eagles have stood pat in regards to shipping off #11.
However, with talks starting to quiet down around the league when it comes to Wentz being traded, a third team has seemingly entered the fray.
According to NFL insiders Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher on the latest episode of the “Inside the Birds” podcast, they named Denver as a team that’s worth keeping an eye on moving forward.

Could the Philadelphia Eagles end up trading Wentz to Denver?
On face value, the Broncos having interest in Wentz makes an abundance of sense. Drew Lock had a year equally as horrible at the QB position, and the organization has been in a state of “quarterback limbo” ever since Peyton Manning retired way back in 2016. The team has started guys like Trevor Siemian, Paxton Lynch, Brock Osweiler, Case Keenum, Brandon Allen, and even Joe Flacco at the position over the last five seasons.

Not exactly an impressive group of names.
Additionally, the Broncos president of football operations is none other than Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway, who has long hunted the ever elusive “franchise quarterback.” While Elway did relinquish general manager duties following the conclusion of the 2020 season, he still oversees the team’s football operations. If he’s sold on Carson Wentz – best believe he’ll try to acquire him.
Unlike Chicago, the Broncos also have the cap space to assume Wentz’ lofty contract number. While the possibility of Wentz restricting his current deal to facilitate a move out of Philadelphia remains an option, the Broncos already having the space to acquire #11 undoubtedly makes the trade easier for everyone involved.
Ultimately speaking, another team jumping in on the Wentz trade discussions is very good news for the Philadelphia Eagles. Howie Roseman and company obviously haven’t gotten an offer that suits their liking, and the more teams that get involved the higher they’ll be able to drive up that asking price.
Denver potentially offering the ninth overall pick in this year’s draft as a bargaining chip would really force the Bears and Colts to sweeten their own respective offers.
As I’m writing this, no formal offer has been made from Denver. However, their interest in the Eagles quarterback is definitely something to monitor over the coming days as we collectively get closer and closer to a Wentz departure.
