Did NFL help Eagles by not flexing Week 14 meeting with Rams to primetime?
By Dan Parzych
This week, the NFL announced how the Week 14 meeting between the Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Rams won’t be flexed into primetime.
As the Philadelphia Eagles prepare for a NFC showdown on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, the team also received some news this week involving their game the following week against another serious contender, the Los Angeles Rams. With both the Eagles and Rams making strong cases for being a top team to beat in the NFC, there was plenty of speculation surrounding the possibility of this Week 14 battle receiving the flexing treatment by moving into primetime on NBC instead of playing in the afternoon on Fox.

This time of year, it’s a common move for NBC to replace their current primetime spot with more exciting games, especially when it comes to games that could have an impact on the current playoff picture. But after weeks of consideration, it appears the network is going to stick with their current plan of broadcasting an AFC North battle between the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers instead.
From the perspective of Rams fans, it’s easy to feel the frustration over missing out on the opportunity to play in front of a national audience when looking at how long it’s taken this team to earn respect across the league after years of disappointment and failing to live up to the hype. As for the Eagles, well let’s just say this is one of those situations that could end up being a blessing in disguise when taking numerous factors into consideration.

For instance, the game against Los Angeles will conclude a long back-to-back trip on the West Coast since Philadelphia will first play in Seattle this coming Sunday. So if the Eagles ended up having to play in primetime against the Rams before having to travel back east before their meeting on the road against the New York Giants, chances are this would have made the trip even more exhausting than it already was for Doug Pederson‘s squad. Philadelphia may be 10-1, and considered the hottest team in the NFL at the moment, but everyone knows they still have a long way to go since a lot could change over these next few weeks in the NFC playoff picture.
