The Philadelphia Eagles defense made a ton of headlines last season in Vic Fangio's first season as the defensive coordinator. The exciting, dynamic defensive unit was the biggest reason why the Eagles lifted the Lombardi Trophy. Among that group, the rookies Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell, and the newcomer Zack Baun's contributions received most of the attention.
This caused defenders lower on the pecking order to be forgotten. However, even among deep bench players on the roster, the Eagles have a lot of young talent with upside.
Underrated Eagles CB Kelee Ringo Getting Ready for Breakout Season
One of those players is cornerback Kelee Ringo, who is entering the third season of his career with the Eagles. Despite being around for the past two seasons, Ringo has yet to turn 23, giving Philly fans hope for his development.
This offseason saw a ton of turnover for the Eagles, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Milton Williams, Josh Sweat, Bryce Huff, and Chauncey Gardner-Johnson left Philadelphia and were replaced through the draft by LB Jihaad Campbell, S Andrew Mukuba, DT Ty Robinson, CB Mac McWilliams, and LB Smael Mondon Jr.
During OTAs, most of the attention was given to these rookies and newcomers. Yet, it was Ringo who shone the brightest during Philly's offseason workouts. Eagles reporter for 94WIP.com, Eliot Shorr-Parks, identified Ringo as one of the stars of OTAs. Everything coming out of Philadelphia suggests that a breakout season may be in the works for the former Georgia standout.
Despite this, Ringo is still flying under the radar.
The Eagles revamped the defensive side of the ball and have exciting new faces like Andrew Mukuba and Jihaad Campbell in the mix. Considering how little of a chance Ringo has gotten so far in his pro career, he is as much of a mystery as the rookies.
If he maintains his momentum into the season, the former fourth-round pick will not be under the radar for much longer as he will likely get the starting job over McWilliams and Adoree' Jackson. Needless to say, it's a situation worth monitoring throughout the summer.
