The Philadelphia Eagles officially shipped veteran defensive end Bryce Huff to the San Francisco 49ers at the beginning of June in exchange for a middle-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

To say that the Huff signing was a bust for the Eagles might be an understatement. After coming to terms with the defender on a three-year, $51 million deal, Philadelphia's front office had seen enough to know they'd made a mistake and ended Huff's tenure with the franchise.

The fact that Huff elected to skip the Eagles' offseason program before being dealt only added fuel to the fire and made trading the edge rusher the best option on the table for Howie Roseman and the front office.

Wednesday afternoon, Huff met with the media in San Francisco and spoke about his time in Philadelphia. He addressed what he learned from the way things ended with the Eagles and how he planned to use those lessons moving forward, per Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com.

After recording 10 sacks, 21 QB hits, and 10 tackles for a loss with the New York Jets in 2023, Huff's production cratered during his lone season with the Eagles. The former Memphis Tigers standout only recorded 13 total tackles, 2.5 sacks, and 3 tackles for a loss while with Philadelphia.

That sort of drop in production is hard to overlook, and, ultimately, was enough for the Eagles to cut their losses and get out of Huff's contract now rather than waiting to see if things improved.

There is no doubt that moving Huff when they did was the right move by Philadelphia. His fit with the scheme was questionable, and there was very little shown this past season to make any fan, coach, or executive think that things would magically click for the defensive end during the 2025 campaign.

Much like Huff's plan to focus on what lies ahead for him as a member of the Niners, the defending Super Bowl champions have no reason to look back at the failed experiment.
