The Philadelphia Eagles have lost key pieces of their Super Bowl team over the last few months. Milton Williams, Josh Sweat and Mekhi Becton all left in free agency and the Eagles will have a different look when they defend their title in 2025.

While some departures created more headlines than others, there was one that hit in the hearts of Eagles fans. After seemingly announcing his departure over the weekend, he confirmed it on Monday and found a new home as he signed with an NFC contender.

Former Eagles KR Britain Covey Signs With Rams

The Los Angeles Rams announced on Monday that they have signed former Eagles kick and punt returner Britain Covey. Covey spent two seasons in Philadelphia after signing as an undrafted free agent in 2022 out of the University of Utah and latched on as the team’s punt returner.

Covey’s best season came in 2023 when he returned 29 punts for a NFL-high 417 yards and was named an alternate to the Pro Bowl but he was limited to just five games last year as he battled shoulder and neck injuries. With Covey out, the Eagles pivoted to Cooper DeJean, who made 21 returns for 211 yards last season and signed returner Avery Williams from the Falcons this offseason.

Williams’s arrival spelled the end for Covey in Philadelphia and a post on his Instagram account that thanked Philadelphia over the weekend foreshadowed his exit. Covey will battle incumbent Xavier Smith, who returned 16 kicks for 149 yards (9.3 per return) last season. Los Angeles also had starting running back Kyren Williams return punts last season but Covey’s arrival likely nixes that experiment.

Either way, it will be different to see Covey in a different jersey next season and the two sides could meet again when the Eagles host the Rams next season.
