Some Eagles Could Have Mixed Feelings About Beating Jacksonville in Week 9
By Cem Yolbulan
The Philadelphia Eagles extended their win streak to three games after a blowout win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. As they continue their chase for the top seed in the NFC East, the Eagles have an excellent chance to build upon their momentum as they take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 9.
The Jaguars have been struggling immensely in Doug Pederson's third year there. After back-to-back seasons with nine wins, the Jaguars currently sit at 2-6 and near the bottom in the AFC.
To make matters worse, they recently lost two starting wide receivers, Christian Kirk and Gabe Davis to injuries. Kirk will miss the remainder of the season and Davis isn't likely to play against the Eagles.
This has put Pederson on the hot seat in Jacksonville and a loss to the Eagles could be the final straw. As of now, Philadelphia is a 7-point favorite over the Jaguars on FanDuel Sportsbook.
Eagles Blowout Win in Week 9 Would Actually Be Bittersweet for Philadelphia
This situation puts certain Eagles players in a tricky position. The priority for the Eagles is obviously getting the win but potentially costing their former head coach his job could certainly be at the back of players' minds.
Pederson spent four seasons as an assistant in Philadelphia before returning as a head coach in 2016. In his second season as a head coach, he led the Eagles to a Super Bowl win, forever making himself a fan favorite in Philly.
The rest of Pederson's tenure in Philadelphia was less successful, but there are plenty of Eagles veterans who will not want to see him lose his job.
