The Philadelphia Eagles have changed things around this offseason as they will be defending their Super Bowl title. Granted, teams will never be the same year over year, and that's the case in Philly.
In the secondary, they let cornerbacks Darius Slay and Isaiah Rodgers walk in free agency. Instead, they are having an open competition at CB2, but no one has stepped up to the plate to lock down the job.
Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio spoke on Monday and pointed out that, typically at this point in camp, a player would have emerged as the best choice, but that has yet to happen at the CB2 spot.

Vic Fangio Points Out There’s No Leader in Eagles CB2 Race
This summer, the battle at CB2 was between Kelee Ringo and Adoree' Jackson. While these guys have been going at it over the last few weeks, the Eagles decided to trade for Jakorian Bennett, adding another body to the comp.
Eli Ricks and Mac McWilliams also got snaps against the Cleveland Browns on Saturday, but regardless, the Eagles are still searching for their second cornerback. They already know that Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean are locking down two starting cornerback spots, but it has to be a bit concerning that no one has emerged as the starter.
Ringo was drafted in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL draft but has only been a depth option through his first two seasons. In 34 games (five starts), he supplied 36 total tackles, three pass breakups, and one interception. Meanwhile, Jackson has a lot of starting experience under his belt (82 starts). In those games, he managed to finish with 404 tackles, 61 pass deflections, and four picks.
As for Bennett, he was acquired on Aug. 4 and added another athletic defender to the fold. He was also drafted in the fourth round in 2023 and had 11 starts (24 games) with the Las Vegas Raiders. In those outings, he posted 58 tackles and 11 pass breakups.
While these three players have been able to start in the NFL, it's clear none of them has stepped up enough. With one preseason game left on the schedule, this week will be huge in this battle.
Eagles reporter Anthony DiBona added that McWilliams has started playing more outside CB after mostly playing in the slot at the beginning of the summer. That indicates he has a chance to snag that role, and the lack of anyone standing out likely led to the increase in reps.
Nonetheless, the Eagles are hoping someone takes the job by the horns, as the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 4 is right around the corner.
