The biggest remaining concern for the Philadelphia Eagles is the offseason changes in the secondary. Losing key corners and trading safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson has left a bit of an unknown when it comes to how the unit is going to perform. The defensive line and pass rush remain incredible, buying plenty of time for the secondary to figure things out. However, if the Eagles are going to defend their title, someone is going to need to step up for the third corner role.
Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio noted this in a recent interview, making it clear that the job was still up for grabs. This isn't exactly ideal when you consider we are reaching the end of August and entering the final week of preseason action. One would hope that someone had taken advantage of the opening and seized the opportunity. This hasn't been the case, with it remaining murky what direction the franchise will choose to go.
While the Eagles still have incredible pieces in the secondary, you're obviously only going to be as good as your weakest link. Quarterbacks and offensive coordinators will build entire game plans around a struggling corner. Leaving it of incredible importance that Philly is able to sort this out in the next week.
Vic Fangio says the open CB job is still going. No one has claimed it yet and everyone is still in the running in the competition.

Eagles Defensive Coordinator Vic Fangio Notes Secondary Concerns
The Eagles could consider looking in free agency at Asante Samuel Jr., who somehow still hasn't found a landing spot in free agency. This leaves room for obvious improvement if Philly cannot find a clear answer over the next week. Fangio openly talking about the team's lack of answers is a bit of a concern when it comes to being ready for Week 1 and a brutal start to the season.
Philly is going to be instantly tested opening the season against a division rival in the Dallas Cowboys before traveling to Arrowhead, where the Kansas City Chiefs will attempt to get a measure of revenge for last season's ending. With this in mind, Philly needs to bring a sense of urgency to the secondary questions and attempt to nail down an instant answer. Whether that is signing Samuel or gaining confidence in one of the current options.
One of the few questionable decisions the Eagles made this offseason was shaking up the secondary. While it was a needed move to create cap space, it has left one potential weakness in what is otherwise an incredibly stacked team.
