Training camp for the Philadelphia Eagles is in full swing as it enters its second week and there have been plenty of developments. One of the biggest is at the wide receiver position, where 2024 draft picks Ainias Smith and Johnny Wilson are trying to defend their roster spots while others are trying to line up behind the top duo of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.
The battle includes a recent addition that has had a surprising camp thus far. But while he’s earned the endorsement of a top Eagles playmaker, an injury may stop his momentum and open the door for someone else to jump him on the depth chart.
Eagles Camp Standout Terrace Marshall Sidelined with Knee Injury
According to Eagles beat reporter Ed Kracz, wide receiver Terrace Marshall was one of several players that did not practice Thursday due to a knee injury. While Zach Baun (back), E.J. Jenkins (hamstring), Andrew Mukuba (shoulder), DeVonta Smith (back) and Nolan Smith (concussion) also missed practice, Marshall’s could be the most consequential as he looks to revive his career in Philadelphia.

A second-round pick by the Carolina Panthers in the 2021 draft, Marshall has failed to top 500 yards in his first four seasons. His career reached a turning point as he spent last year with the San Francisco 49ers practice squad and appeared in seven games with the Las Vegas Raiders but he was a surprising addition as the Eagles looked for receiver depth this spring.
So far, Marshall has been able to make a positive impression. Brown told reporters that Marshall was going to make some of the current receivers “very uncomfortable” if he continued to make plays early in camp. A few days later, he received first-team reps with the starting offense, presumably pushing incumbent No. 3 wide receiver Jahan Dotson for his job.
Dotson has a similar career arc as Marshall, coming over as a failed first-round draft pick by the Washington Commanders. But he also had modest production in the No. 3 role a year ago, catching 19 passes for 216 scoreless yards.
It sets up a great opportunity for Marshall to not only take a roster spot but carve out a key role in the Eagles offense moving forward. But that will only happen if he’s able to return to the field in short order.
