The latest update on James Bradberry from the Philadelphia Eagles' first practice is far from good news for the veteran.

With all veterans now on hand, the Philadelphia Eagles officially kicked off their first training camp practice on Wednesday. While there's a ton of attention on how some of Philly's new arrivals look, there's several questions about returning players that need to be answered as well.

One of the biggest pertains to the future of defensive back James Bradberry, whose contract and 2023 performance have him squarely on the chopping block.

Bradberry has shown a willingness to do anything he can to stick around, but the latest update on his usage is far from good news.

As Zach Berman of PHLY pointed out on Wednesday, Bradberry was working at safety in the first Eagles practice, out of his natural position of cornerback Even worse? He was on the second team.

It's genuinely shocking to see how far Bradberry's stock has fallen within this squad. He looked like a core piece of the secondary for years to come after his incredible 2021 campaign that saw him make an All-Pro team for the first time in his career.

However, his play dropped off significantly this past season, so much so that he was a legitimate liability and a matchup opposing offenses regularly targeted (to great results, at that). Now Bradberry's Eagles tenure is in serious jeopardy, and he's moved over to a new position to try and salvage things.

Going from a top starter on defense to second-string contributor playing out of position has to be difficult, though, and it wouldn't be a surprise if he'd prefer to suit at CB again.

That is one of the factors contributing to the thinking Bradberry won't last much longer in Philadelphia. All it takes is a couple of injuries around the league to top guys to open up a starting opportunity for Bradberry, and a trade opportunity for Philadelphia, who clearly doesn't value the vet highly anymore.
