Saquon Barkley Throws Shade at Giants Following Dominant Week 1 Performance
By Cem Yolbulan
The highly anticipated Week 1 matchup between the Eagles and the Packers was a sloppy occasion. It wasn't the highest level of football either team has played as there were plenty of mistakes on both ends. One player shone the brightest in the underwhelming night of football: Saquon Barkley.
The star running back reminded everyone why the Eagles broke the bank for him and signed him to a three-year, $37.75 million deal in the offseason. The two-time Pro Bowler turned back the clock in his first game as an Eagle, finishing with 132 yards from scrimmage and three total touchdowns.
Barkley was understandably thrilled after the game and had nothing but praise for his teammates. While doing so, however, he didn't forget to offer some remarks that could be understood as shading his former team.
The New York Giants mind-bogglingly decided not to retain Barkley in the offseason. Owner John Mara had said that he would have a tough time sleeping if Barkley went to Philadelphia in an episode of Hard Knocks. One has to wonder how Mara must be feeling after the former Giant showed what he can do with high-level offensive line play and better offensive weapons.
"That's my favorite thing about being part of this team. There are really no selfish personalities here. We have one common goal, and I'm excited to be part of that."
- Saquon Barkley
Barkley said that he is excited to be a part of "one common goal" and loves the fact that there are "no selfish personalities". Considering the fact that Barkley never played for any other team except for the Giants, this could easily be seen as a shot at his former team.
Even though it's not clear exactly who the 27-year-old rusher is talking about, it's obvious that he will be extra motivated to face New York in weeks 7 and 18.
