Saquon Barkley Reveals Why He Chose Eagles Over Giants
There wasn't a team that was more aggressive this offseason than the Philadelphia Eagles. They added a bunch of playmakers in both free agency and the NFL Draft.
Arguably the biggest acquisition was signing RB Saquon Barkley to a three-year, $37.75 million deal. This signing infuriated the Giants fanbase and Barkley gave some insight into why he joined the Eagles.
Barkley was in attendance at Game 6 at Wells Fargo Center between the Philadelphia 76ers and the New York Knicks on May 2. Fans were still annoyed with Barkley and said he bailed on the Giants.
The Penn State product responded on Twitter and said, "Let me educate some of you fans here… I can’t bail or become a traitor if I never got an offer to come back.. so I went to the organization I felt that was the best and after already being here for a month man I’m excited to be a eagle ! Go birds"
Fans were under the assumption that the Giants offered Barkley a deal and he just bolted to a divisional rival but that wasn't the case.
The 27-year-old played under the franchise tag in 2022 and agreed to a revised deal for 2023.
After six years in New York, they didn't even offer him a long-term deal so he decided to stay within the division and join the Eagles.
Barkley is one of the most explosive, dual-threat weapons in the league. He's compiled 5,211 rushing yards, 2,100 receiving yards, and 47 total touchdowns.
He now joins an offense that features Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, and DeVonta Smith. The Birds will square off against the Giants twice in 2024 and those contests will be must watch TV.
