New York Giants (Pick No. 6): QB J.J. McCarthy, Michigan
When it comes to this year's QB prospect, most projections tend to have Williams off the board first followed by Daniels and Drake in any order. Assuming that's how things go in Las Vegas next week, I see the New York Giants going with Michigan J.J. McCarthy as their next franchise quarterback.
With Daniel Jones, Drew Lock, and Tommy DeVito making up for the Giants' QB room, it's clear that they need someone like McCarthy going forward. The Wolverines gunslinger knows how to win when it matters the most, having just led Michigan to a CFP National Championship victory after finishing the campaign as the Big Ten Quarterback of the Year.
When it comes to draft rankings, McCarthy was a late riser who didn't start to gain traction until an impressive NFL Combine performance. Even then, it isn't like his 2023 stats were bad. He still completed 72.3% of passes for 2,991 yards and 22 TDs (to four INTs) and even added 202 rushing yards and three more touchdowns on 64 carries.
It could take a few years until McCarthy is ready to become the Giants No. 1 QB, but they can afford to wait that long. Jones is still under contract for three more seasons, giving New York's next potential signal-caller more than enough time to prepare himself for the unforgiving thunderdome known as the NFC East.
