Latest Joel Embiid Injury News is Massive for 76ers' Playoff Push
It's been a rough couple of months for the Philadelphia 76ers. Joel Embiid hasn't suited up for the 76ers since Jan. 30 after he sustained a meniscus injury. He underwent surgery on Feb. 6 but the 76ers have seen a dramatic fall without their best player.
Philadelphia is currently the eighth seed but they received positive news regarding the seven-time All-Star. Per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Embiid is nearing a return and is expected to play sometime this week.
76ers News: Joel Embiid Is Slated to Return This Week
The return of Embiid will provide a massive boost for the city of Brotherly Love. There are seven games left in the regular season so it gives the 30-year-old some time to get some reps in.
Prior to going down with the injury, Embiid was consistently dominating opposing players on the floor. The former Kansas standout scores from all over the court and is a stout rim protector.
In 34 games this season, Embiid averaged 35.3 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game. He also averaged 1.8 blocks per contest. Embiid racked up 27 double-doubles out of those 34 outings.
The return of Embiid is huge and they certainly need him to have a shot at getting out of the Eastern Conference. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the 76ers are tied for the third-best odds at +1200 to win the East.
