As we approach the first preseason game of the year, we are getting a better idea of the depth chart in Philadelphia. Position battles intensify and players make their case for starting roles.

One of the most surprising position battles in the Eagles training camp has been the QB2 situation. When the Eagles traded for Kenny Pickett, many had rightfully assumed that he would be the clear-cut backup behind Jalen Hurts. He had been the starting QB on a winning team for two seasons in Pittsburgh, after all. However, training camp didn't pan out that way.

It was widely reported that Pickett has been struggling during training camp. In fact, third-string quarterback Tanner McKee has been getting backup reps over the last week. Even though the organization is denying that this means much, the latest report out of practice further confirms the previous news. Bleeding Green Nation's Brandon Lee Gowton reported that McKee once again outplayed Pickett on Wednesday.

"Pickett exacerbated second-team offensive line struggles by holding onto the ball for a long time. Tanner McKee had a real impressive back-shoulder ball to Austin Watkins in the middle of the end zone for a touchdown. "

Brandon Lee Gowton, SB Nation

Highlighting a play that Pickett would have been sacked if it was a real game, Gowton said that the former Steelers QB was holding onto the ball for too long. On the other hand, former sixth-round pick McKee continued to impress.

Gowton confirms previous reports that QB2 is very much up for grabs. Who gets the job will likely depend on preseason games. The Eagles open their preseason slate against the Ravens on Friday. If McKee continues to outplay Pickett, things could get worse for the former first-round pick out of Pittsburgh, resulting in a potential cut.
