With the NFL Trade Deadline coming up next week, the Philadelphia Eagles don't have a ton of work to do. At 6-1 heading into their Week 8 matchup with the Washington Commanders, the reigning NFC champs already have a great core in place and are well on their way to another playoff berth.

That doesn't mean GM Howie Roseman won't do some tinkering around the edges of the roster, however, as no team is perfect. After coming up short in the Super Bowl last year, the Eagles need to keep their foot on the gas and upgrade where they can.

With that in mind, it wouldn't be surprising to see Philly make some moves in the next few days, including a potential trade of running back Rashaad Penny, according to ESPN insider Tim McManus.

Eagles Trade Rumors

You've probably forgotten that Penny is even on the Eagles given how little he's played. The veteran RB hasn't seen the field since Week 2, when he took 3 rushes for 9 yards in Philadelphia's 34-28 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday Night Football.

Since then? Crickets.

Most weeks have ended with Penny being a healthy scratch, as he's currently the odd man out in the Eagles' backfield. With D'Andre Swift, Kenneth Gainwell and Boston Scott suiting up every week, there just simply isn't room for Penny.

The 27-year-old former first-round pick may not have any value for Philadelphia right now, but he could certainly be of use to a team with less RB depth. He led the NFL in yards per carry in 2021 (6.3) and was on a similar pace last year (6.1) before getting hurt, so there could still be a valuable running back somewhere in there.

He's on a relatively cheap one-year deal with a $1.2 million cap hit, making him a good value add for a team looking for a proven RB. Even if Penny isn't a true RB1 anymore, he'd still be a pretty good RB2 or RB3 somewhere else, especially since his legs are fresh after barely playing in the first half.

If Penny is still on the Eagles by this time next week, it will be a major missed opportunity to get something in return for him.
