ESPN Proposes Big Eagles Trade Based on Latest Draft Intel
By Cem Yolbulan
Like all 32 teams in the league, the Philadelphia Eagles are laser-focused on the 2024 NFL Draft with only a few days left until the first round of selections. So naturally, there will be plenty of rumors, speculations, and mock drafts over the next couple of days. ESPN just released their latest seven-round mock on Monday morning and it has a big surprise involving the Eagles.
In Jordan Reid's mock draft for ESPN (subscription required), the Eagles use their first and second-round picks to trade up in the first round to address their defensive needs.
ESPN Mock Draft: Eagles Trade Up to Select Elite Cornerback
As part of the deal with the Denver Broncos, Philly sends their No. 22, No. 50, and No. 161 selections to move up ten spots in the first round. The Eagles get the 12th overall pick in the draft from Denver and select cornerback Terrion Arnold from Alabama.
Reid claims that the Eagles are a good trade-up candidate in the draft.
"In conversations with sources, it sounds like the Eagles want to trade up in Round 1 or Round 2 to target either a cornerback or an offensive tackle. And Denver might decide it can move down, add more picks and still get a quarterback."
This deal makes plenty of sense for both sides. Philadelphia desperately needs to upgrade its cornerback rotation. Darius Slay has injury concerns and James Bradberry was a shell of himself last season, contributing to the team's epic collapse on the defensive end last year.
Arnold is one of the most talented cornerbacks in this draft class. His versatility, combined with his ability to be a ballhawk, recording five interceptions in 2023, makes him a surefire top-15 selection in the draft. Along with Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell, he will be among the first corners to get off the board on Thursday.
FanDuel Sportsbook expects the Eagles to select a cornerback with their first draft selection as well. The +135 odds for a CB are followed by +175 for an offensive lineman.
