The Philadelphia Eagles have the fanbase ready for some NFL action. They were consistently improving the team this offseason in multiple different avenues.

That's what happens when you end the season on such a sour note but at least they didn't stay content.

Tuesday was cutdown day around the NFL and a boatload of players were given bad news that they would be getting released. One offensive lineman was released but the Eagles quickly brought him back for the 2024 season.

Eagles News: Nick Gates Joins Eagles Practice Squad

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, center Nick Gates is signing with the Eagles practice squad and they plan to elevate him for the Week 1 showdown against the Green Bay Packers in Brazil.

Gates was signed by the Eagles on July 30th and went through training camp with the team. After being released on Tuesday, Philly decided to quickly bring him back.

The 28-year-old was cut by the Washington Commanders at the beginning of the league year, just one year after he signed a three-year, $16.5 million extension. As Schefter has stated, Gates has $1.99 million guaranteed from Washington for this season.

The Eagles' offensive line is going through a transition after Jason Kelce retired this offseason so bringing back Gates adds some stability to the interior. In his NFL career, Gates has started 39 starts. Last season, he notched a 66.1 overall grade per Pro Football Focus.

The Nebraska product also has experience at guard, adding more value to his 2024 impact. The Eagles will have Cam Jurgens at center with Landon Dickerson at left guard. Either Tyler Steen or Mekhi Becton will be starting at right guard but having Gates in the rotation gives the Birds more flexibility.

They clearly like what they saw as they plan to have him on the active roster starting in Week 1.
