The Philadelphia Eagles will not be trading veteran defensive end Josh Sweat, who seemed like a candidate not to be with the team earlier this week.

Heading into free agency and the new league year, multiple reports stated that the Philadelphia Eagles could trade Josh Sweat or Haason Reddick.

The idea of potentially moving one of those guys became a reality when the Eagles signed free agent defensive end Bryce Huff to a three-year, $51.1 million contract earlier this week.

However, it appears the Eagles might not be shaking up their defensive end position after all.

Eagles News: Philadelphia Opts to Keep Josh Sweat

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that veteran defensive end Josh Sweat will stay with the Eagles on a restructured deal with $10 million guaranteed plus incentives (max of $13 million).

Eagles fans thought that the veteran defensive lineman was on his way out of Philadelphia after commenting on Instagram, “I will miss you all.” Sweat will be a part of a new defensive scheme led by defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.

The former Florida State defensive end is coming off a down 2023 season, where he only had 43 combined tackles, 23 quarterback hits, seven tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks. Sweat’s last sack of the season happened in Week 9 against the Dallas Cowboys, as Philadelphia’s defense was in a state of confusion.

The Eagles hope Sweat can return to his 2022 form, where he had a career-high 11 sacks and 15 quarterback hits. In a league where good pass rushers are a necessity, Philly is making sure they won’t have a repeat of last season under Fangio.
