The Philadelphia Eagles are scouring the quarterback market to find a suitable backup for Jalen Hurts. With now four days having passed in free agency, the Eagles' options are dwindling after having lost Marcus Mariota to the Washington Commanders and losing the Joe Flacco sweepstakes to the Indianapolis Colts.

One option for the Eagles will be trading for a backup signal-caller. One quarterback who is on the market and has recently been linked to Philadelphia is the Chicago Bears' Justin Fields.

Eagles Rumors: Justin Fields Emerging As Potential Backup QB Candidate

To be clear, there hasn't been any reporting that the Eagles are interested in Fields. However, there has been a significant buzz on social media among Eagles fans who seem conflicted about potentially bringing in the former Ohio State standout.

On paper, Fields is a good fit. With a similar play style to Jalen Hurts, Fields would allow Philadelphia to continue the same system if Hurts was injured.

Whether it would be a smart decision to trade for him depends on the assets it would require to get him. Considering that Fields' trade market has been non-existent all offseason, it likely wouldn't be more than mid-round draft picks at best.

Yet, it might still be wiser for the Birds to get an established, veteran backup in the mold of Joe Flacco. Fields is promising and talented but we have no evidence that he can drive winning at this stage of his career.

Players like Ryan Tannehill, Carson Wentz, and Jimmy Garoppolo are still available on the market and their veteran experience could prove to be more valuable for a team with Super Bowl aspirations rather than taking a flyer on an unproven QB that would require additional assets.
