The Philadelphia Eagles are scouring the market for affordable backup quarterbacks to replace Marcus Mariota next season. They already made a run at Joe Flacco before the veteran signed with the Indianapolis Colts and now the number of experienced names on the market is quickly dwindling. So, the Eagles are reportedly targeting less established names to back up Jalen Hurts.

According to Eagles insider Jake Rabadi, one name that has come up recently is former Baltimore Raven Tyler Huntley.

Eagles Rumors: Philadelphia is Interested in Ravens' Tyler Huntley

Per sources, the Eagles and free agent Huntley have touched base. Huntley has been behind Lamar Jackson in Baltimore for the past four seasons, starting nine regular season and one postseason game in the meantime.

These appearances haven't necessarily gone well as the Ravens are 3-7 in these games. But Huntley allowed them to play with the same system with Jackson out due to his similar dual-threat play style.

The Ravens have added Malik Cunningham to the roster as another signal-caller, making Huntley's future in Baltimore a bit more tenuous. Huntley might prefer a destination where he has more of a shot to start but that is unlikely to happen.

Jalen Hurts has been impressively durable in 2023 but his play style makes him vulnerable to injuries. Any backup to Hurts has the chance to get spot starts throughout the season. This could make the Eagles gig appealing for Huntley but whether Philadelphia would prefer a more experienced veteran in that role remains to be seen.

Currently, Jalen Hurts is considered a long shot to be the NFL MVP next season. At +1600, Hurts has the ninth-best odds, even behind less established stars like CJ Stroud, Justin Herbert, and Jordan Love.
