Eagles Rookie Already Making Plays Against A.J. Brown in Practice
The Philadelphia Eagles have been one of the most improved teams throughout the offseason. General manager Howie Roseman made it his mission to find new playmakers on both sides of the ball and he achieved that.
The Eagles were able to revamp their secondary this offseason with two big additions in the 2024 NFL Draft.
They grabbed Quinyon Mitchell in the first round before quickly adding Cooper DeJean in the second round.
With the Eagles entering their second week of training camp, Mitchell has already been battling against WR A.J. Brown and is making life a bit difficult.
Eagles News: Quinyon Mitchell Locks Down A.J. Brown in Practice Rep
During a one-on-one rep against A.J. Brown on Tuesday, Mitchell covered the All-Pro WR so well that quarterback Jalen Hurts didn't even throw the ball up.
In the following rep, Mitchell forced Brown out of bounds before he could get two feet inbounds.
Back in the spring, Mitchell called one of Brown's routes "trash," showcasing the confidence he has in himself to start his career.
In three seasons at the University of Toledo, Mitchell was very productive. He is physical enough to make plays in the run game while having the deep speed and awareness to make plays downfield.
He finished his collegiate career with 123 total tackles, 45 pass deflections, and six interceptions. He also had 7.5 tackles for loss. At the NFL Scouting Combine, Mitchell blew teams away, running a 4.33 40-yard dash and notching a 38-inch vertical jump.
His natural traits are already translating onto the football field and that's a great start for him. Darius Slay is the only corner locked into a starting spot.
Kelee Ringo has impressed, taking reps at CB2 for the past couple of days but he has a long way to go before locking down that spot.
