Eagles Reportedly Spurn Former Star Who Wants to Return to Philadelphia
By Cem Yolbulan
Haason Reddick has been in the spotlight since the 2023 NFL season ended. The star defender wanted a contract extension from the Philadelphia Eagles and when that never came, he was traded to the New York Jets for a conditional third-round draft pick.
The 30-year-old continued his contract holdout in New York, missing the entirety of training camp. He still hasn't reported to the team and is accruing fines with each passing week. He requested a trade but the Jets have been playing hardball.
ESPN insider Rich Cimini reported earlier in the week that Reddick is open to coming back to Philadelphia. However, Philadelphia sports radio host John Kincade doesn't think the Eagles will be too interested.
NFL News: Eagles Not Interested in Haason Reddick Reunion
The Eagles didn't want to offer Reddick an extension in the offseason. The facts of the matter still haven't changed, so they will still be unlikely to sign a long-term deal with a 30-year-old defender, regardless of how good he has been as an Eagle. Perhaps Reddick is now willing to take less money after seeing his tepid market. Yet, Kincade thinks the Eagles don't want to "deal with him".
"The Eagles don’t want him back. It doesn’t matter — the Eagles didn’t want him. The Eagles wanted him out. They had no interest in dealing with him money-wise or dealing with him. And, more importantly, you heard the deafening silence from his teammates – nobody gave a damn when he walked out the door."

Reddick hasn't missed a game in his two years in Philadelphia. He recorded 27 sacks in 34 starts. The Eagles have been struggling in the pass rush so far, failing to put enough pressure on the opposing quarterbacks and they only have four total sacks in three games. Reddick's skill set would help but it sounds like the Eagles have off-the-field reasons to pass on the two-time Pro Bowler.
