The Philadelphia Eagles have the dubious honor of taking a 10-hour-plus flight to Brazil to open the 2024 NFL season. The Eagles are looking at this matchup as a business trip as they will be playing a hungry Green Bay Packers squad.

In the months and weeks leading up to this Week 1 contest, there have been rumors floating around on the internet about fans wearing green to the game and just everything taking place in Brazil.

Some of those rumors have been debunked. However, it still doesn’t seem like the players are enthusiastic about starting their season in a new country.

Eagles starting cornerback Darius Slay told listeners and Eagles fans he doesn’t want to go to Brazil and gave his reasons why on the Big Play Slay podcast.

“They already told us not to leave the hotel. They told us we can’t do too much because the crime rate is crazy,” Slay said. “I’m like NFL, why would you wanna send us somewhere with a crime rate this high? I told my family do not come down there.”

Slay continued, “I’m not going to be nowhere to be found. I’m going to be in the hotel chillin', minding my business, playing my game after a long nine-and-a-half-hour flight. I have no intentions of doing nothing.”

With the game scheduled for Friday night, the Eagles won’t have much time to do anything in Brazil, except prepare for the game. Therefore, it’s not shocking to hear Slay say that he told his family not to come, despite mentioning the high crime rate.

The Eagles hope Slay and the rest of the defense will be ready to play on Friday as Green Bay’s offense has a ton of playmakers to worry about.
