Eagles Player Makes Concerning Claim About Philly's Coaches After MNF
By Cem Yolbulan
The Philadelphia Eagles suffered an embarrassing collapse on Monday Night Football, blowing a late fourth-quarter lead against the Falcons. Unfortunately, the fans and players alike are too familiar with such collapses. The entire second half of the 2023 season was basically an extended version of one.
Yet, the coaching staff still doesn't seem to understand how to deal with them. It was revealed after the game that no Eagles coach said a word in the locker room. CBS Sports' Jeff Kerr reported that veteran safety Reed Blankenship said only the players, led by Jalen Hurts, spoke in the locker room after the game.
Eagles Coaches Silent in Locker Room After Disastrous Falcons Loss
Blankenship tried to spin it as being a player-led team. However, Nick Sirianni and the coaching staff clearly had a lot of responsibility for the loss. The late-game offensive execution and playcalling were highly questionable. The play call that led to Saquon Barkley's dropped pass and choosing to go for a field goal when getting first down on a 4th-and-three situation would have ended the game were costly decisions.
Not addressing your players at all after contributing to the loss is certainly an interesting decision. It was obviously not entirely on Nick Sirianni or offensive coordinator Kellen Moore but there were clearly things they could have done to give the team a better chance to win.
Blankenship is right in the sense that the players also could have done more. The 25-year-old defender himself didn't have his best game, finishing with three missed tackles and allowing two catches on two targets in coverage. Yet, it's important to not let the coaches off the hook after a deflating loss like that.
