Former Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz has asked for and been granted his release from the Arizona Cardinals. Former Cardinal and now-CBS broadcaster JJ Watt broke the news on social media that Ertz is in search for a team to join to go after his second Super Bowl ring.

His first came in 2018 right here with the Birds. So, why not try for one more?

Eagles: an Ertz return is just what this roster needs

Now, it is not as simple as just signing Ertz and adding him to the roster. He will still need to clear waivers, meaning other teams could claim him prior to him getting his full freedom. But, let's say that process goes through. The Eagles are hurting at the tight end position since Dallas Goedert went down with a forearm injury that has sidelined him for three weeks.

Goedert could return to play as early as this weekend against the San Francisco 49ers, but why wouldn't you still kick the tires on an Ertz reunion? He's familiar with the system, he knows what it takes to win, and he is another guy in the middle that could take attention off of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith on the outside.

The 10-1 Eagles are on the path to reach their second Super Bowl in a row. Last year ended bitterly and the loss is still a bad taste in the mouth. Adding Ertz to contribute to the depth and veteran presence on this team seems like a no brainer move to attempt.
