The Philadelphia Eagles finalized their 53-man roster for the new season ahead of Tuesday's roster cutdown deadline. Against all odds, veteran defender James Bradberry made the cut.

Ever since the 2023 NFL season wrapped up, Bradberry has been at the top of everyone's list of trade and cut candidates. After a deeply disappointing individual season from Bradberry that resulted in an epic collapse of the entire defensive unit, it made sense for both sides to go their separate ways. Yet, Bradberry changed positions and survived the roster cuts to find himself as the backup safety on the depth chart.

Unfortunately, however, he is facing a new challenge. According to Ian Rapoport, the former Pro Bowler suffered a leg injury on Wednesday and is expected to miss six to eight weeks.

Eagles News: James Bradberry Out 6-8 Weeks With Leg Injury

The fact that the injury doesn't require surgery is the silver lining. A recovery time of six to eight weeks would still give Bradberry enough time to be ready for the second half of the season.

The bigger issue, however, is that the injury jeopardizes the possibility of trading the 31-year-old. The NFL trade deadline is on November 5 and if Bradberry doesn't play at all by then, it will be harder to trade him.

While he is sidelined, the Eagles will be on the hook for his big salary. Bradberry has a cap hit of $4.3 million for the 2024 season. If they were to cut him, they would take on $15.1 million in dead money. That is a big number for a team that is desperately trying to make it to the Super Bowl.

Fortunately for the Eagles, they have made significant additions to their secondary in the offseason. C.J. Gardner-Johnson is back, Isaiah Rodgers has been reinstated, and they drafted Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean in the first two rounds of the draft. If things go according to the plan, Philadelphia doesn't really need Bradberry to contribute.
