The 2024 season is drawing closer for the Philadelphia Eagles, who just kicked off their second week of OTA workouts. Soon it'll be mandatory minicamp, with training camp and the preseason following toward the end of the summer.

Fans already knew the Eagles' preseason schedule in 2024, but the team has just revealed an extra event to look forward to this August.

Philadelphia is participating in a joint practice against the New England Patriots on Tuesday, Aug. 13 ahead of their preseason matchup at Gillette Stadium. Pats head coach Jerod Mayo has been on the record as a fan of just one joint session, since the second day is notorious for fights.

As a rebuilding team in the opposite conference, the Patriots don't immediately stand out as an opponent to learn much from. However, the fact that New England just spent a top-three pick on a new quarterback in Drake Maye, and this practice will provide Philly with its first glimpse of a potential next franchise QB.

Of course, it remains to be seen how much Maye participates. The Patriots have made it clear they won't throw him into the fire, especially since the main concern around him coming into the draft was his lack of experience, so the Eagles might get a heavy dose of Jacoby Brissett in this session.

Still, this is a great learning opportunity for Maye, who'd see what he can do against one of the most talented defenses in the league. Meanwhile, the Eagles' rookie defenders (like Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean) would get the chance to impress against one of their draft's top picks and show their falls were unwarranted.
