The Philadelphia Eagles were one of the busier teams this offseason after they dropped seven out of their last eight games to end the 2023 season.

Eagles GM Howie Roseman made multiple changes on both sides of the ball, including signing star running back Saquon Barkley in free agency to a multi-year deal and using their first two draft picks on the secondary (Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean).

In addition to the free-agent signings, Philly made sure to re-up a lot of their players to contract extensions this offseason. The Eagles signed Landon Dickerson, Jordan Mailata, A.J. Brown, and DeVonta Smith to extensions.

However, the Eagles’ brass might not be done handing out extensions before training camp rolls around next month.

Eagles Rumors: Philadelphia, Milton Williams Have Held Preliminary Talks on an Extension

Jake Rabadi of The Liberty Line reported Wednesday that the Eagles and defensive tackle Milton Williams have had preliminary discussions on a contract extension. However, he adds that the extension may not get done before the start of the regular season.

The Eagles will depend on the 25-year-old Williams to anchor the defensive line after Fletcher Cox officially retired from the NFL this offseason. The former third-round pick is set to become an unrestricted free agent next offseason.

The 6-foot-3 defensive tackle had a solid 2023 campaign as he started a career-high 10 games and played 46% of defensive snaps. Williams had 42 combined tackles, seven quarterback hits, three tackles for loss, a forced fumble, and a half sack.

The former Louisiana Tech defensive lineman will likely compete for a starting job on the line, alongside Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis. Based on what we’ve seen from Williams over the first three years, he could become a star under new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. And if that happens, Roseman will find a way to re-sign Williams for a long-term deal.
