Eagles Bring Back Veteran Playmaker Immediately After Releasing Him
By Cem Yolbulan
The Philadelphia Eagles are off to a hot start as they came away with an impressive Week 1 win against the Packers in Brazil. Yet, GM Howie Roseman and head coach Nick Sirianni aren't done tinkering with the roster. One of their latest roster re-shuffling moves was a confusing one but brought back a former Eagles playmaker.
After spending the first three seasons of his career in Philadelphia, tight end Jack Stoll signed with the New York Giants in the offseason. He was released before the roster cutdown day and signed to the Eagles practice squad in late August. However, his second stint with the Eagles wasn't too long as he was cut on Wednesday.
Surprisingly, he is now back again. According to Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia, the 26-year-old was signed to the practice squad on Thursday.
Eagles News: Jack Stoll Makes It Back on Practice Squad After Being Released on Wednesday
It makes sense that the Eagles would want to keep a trusted veteran who knows the team and the system. It is unlikely that Stoll will see many snaps barring injuries as he is firmly behind Dallas Goedert, Grant Calcaterra, and E.J. Jenkins on the depth chart. Additionally, Philadelphia has Albert Okwuegbunam Jr., and rookie McCallan Castles currently on the injured reserve list.
Stoll played in 50 (26 starts) for the Eagles over the last three seasons. Despite the fact that he has played 1,343 offensive snaps for the team in that span, he is seldom used in the passing game. He has 20 catches in 27 targets and zero touchdowns for his career. However, he has played a crucial role as a blocking tight end at times. If he gets another chance on the active roster, it will presumably be for his relentless blocking.
