The Philadelphia Eagles will finally open 2024 training camp this week as the team prepares for the upcoming regular season. After a spring full of roster changes, these first practice sessions will be incredibly important for this new-look squad to determine roles and build chemistry for the campaign ahead.

Unfortunately, however, one young contributor will be sidelined as practice kicks off.

According to Jimmy Kempski of the Philly Voice, safety Sydney Brown is expected to be placed on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list as camp opens.

Brown is coming off of a torn ACL suffered in Philadelphia's season finale versus the New York Giants this past January, and given the lengthy rehab process for an injury like that, it's no surprise he's not ready to hit the field yet.

The University of Illinois product was a third-round pick by the Eagles in the 2023 draft. He went on to suit up in 14 games a rookie, but played in just 35% of the team's total defensive snaps. Brown did establish himself as a core special teams player, however, seeing over half (59%) of the available snaps on that unit.

While it's expected for Brown to be sidelined still this summer, it's still disappointing news. Philadelphia is clearly optimistic about his talent considering the investment the team made in him with a Day 2 draft pick, but this major injury is now stunting his development heading into his second season by.

Brown is now forced to focus on getting back to his pre-injury form, instead of growing as a player, like his healthy 2023 classmates have this offseason. The fact his rehab is likely to keep him out of at least some preseason action and possibly even the start of the 2024 campaign just hurts his timeline as well.

However, there's a chance Brown progesses faster than expected in his recovery. For now though, all fans can do is wait and see.
