Cooper Kupp Injury Update is Terrible News For Eagles Fans
By Tyler Maher
All week, Eagles fans have been monitoring the status of Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp. Kupp opened the season on the IR due to a hamstring injury but returned to practice this week, giving him a shot at playing in Week 5 when Philadelphia takes on Los Angeles.
Well, the uncertainty around Kupp's playing status was cleared up on Friday when the Rams provided an update on the veteran wideout.
Cooper Kupp Injury Update
In the media session after Friday's practice, LA head coach Sean McVay confirmed that Kupp will play on Sunday.
Obviously, this is not great news for Eagles fans. Kupp is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL when healthy. He proved that in 2021 when he won Offensive Player of the Year and finished third in MVP voting after leading the NFL in receptions (145), receiving yards (1,947) and receiving touchdowns (16).
Kupp has also torched us in the past. In 2 career games against Philly, he's racked up 199 receiving yards and a touchdown on 10 catches. He also rushed for 19 yards on 2 carries the last time he faced us, tallying 100+ total yards in both contests.
Kupp's return gives Matthew Stafford his favorite weapon back and adds another threat to the Rams' passing game. Stafford has already been averaging 307.3 passing yards per game this year without Kupp -- his highest mark since 2019. Kupp joins a passing attack that already ranks second in the NFL in passing yards.
With Kupp flanked by breakout stars Puka Nacua and Tutu Atwell in the receiving corps, LA's offense is truly frightening. The team ranks fourth in total yardage and should get a boost this weekend at home with Kupp back in the fold.
Philadelphia's defense was already going to have its hands full, and now it has Kupp to worry about as well. There's no tape on how McVay plans to use Kupp in the Rams' offense this year, either, but we can be sure that he's scheming something up right now.
Our defense has been one of the worst in the league against the pass this year, ranking 27th in passing yards allowed and 30th in passing TDs allowed. It needs to step up and find a way to stop Kupp this weekend, otherwise we may not be undefeated for long.
